As a fan, I want to see the games get better, but how would I design them? So I decided to form my thoughts regarding the game design and level design of the next Sonic game. This has got me thinking about the future of the Sonic franchise. To gain a better idea of what differentiates the two playstyles, you can take a look at this analysis video. ![]() Even the fanbase is split into two camps: one who supports the classic 2D games and the other who demands the modern 3D games. Yet, Sonic games have always been more attractive to me due to its branding of ‘coolness’ and ‘speed’.Īs the franchises progressed, it became obvious that while Mario games continued to remain consistently well-received, Sonic games went through many ups and downs. Being fortunate enough to own both a Sega Genesis and a Super Nintendo, I had the luxury to experience the best platformers in the form of the Sonic and Mario games.
